Hoof care Missouri

Meet Tim Wolfe.

Growing up in the Midwest with many different "critters". Tim Wolfe knew at an early age he wanted to work with animals, preferably dogs or horses. At the early age of fourteen, he held his first "professional" job at a kennel. At sixteen, he began working at a dressage barn in central Missouri. When Tim finished high school, he went on to manage that same dressage barn. Later, Wolfe continued his education in Pipestone, MN obtaining his Veterinary Management Degree.

He has worked with Thoroughbreds, trotters, hunter jumpers, show horses and his favorite, driving and pulling heavy and lite horses. His back ground of working with many different breeds and disciplines of horses put Tim in touch with a large variety of farriers. Tim feels privileged to have worked with some exceptional farriers, and because of his work, his interest in the equine foot developed, always remembering "No Hoof, No Horse."

Time and again, throughout his career working with horses, "No Hoof No Horse," proved to be correct. Tim started to see a pattern where the majority of horses that were lame an unable to perform proved to be due to hoof problems. He watched as hoof care professionals tried different types of shoeing, pads, acrylic and other hoof fillers to try and heal the damaged hooves.

There seemed to be no universal common denominator for the correction of hoof problems or even for everyday hoof care. Each method seemed more severe than the next. It was left to the individual farrier's interpretation of the farrier trade how to treat the horses' feet.

Wolfe started to look at alternatives in caring for his own animals damaged hooves. He pulled the shoes and started trimming them himself implementing two methods. One, he trimmed the hoof to what he thought to be the proper shape. Two, Tim took the flare out of the hoof. In a few months' time, the feet started to show improvement and the amount of hoof to be trimmed decreased. This was definite progress, but Tim wanted more. At a horse show, Tim met KC LA Pierre of the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry and learned more about why his shoeless method worked. Tim Wolfe applied for an obtained a scholarship to LA Pierre's institute; attended and graduated from the school; and is now a practicing Applied Equine Podiatrist, always keeping in mind the philosophy "No Hoof No Horse."
